The last decade has seen major changes in business/corporate behavior Business leaders today largely seek only of their own enrichment. As a retiree of a major national corporation, I am greatly concerned with this paradigm and request that the playing field be leveled. Specifically, corporations and their leaders should no longer be able to seek protection at will for erroneous decisions or deliberate objectives by entering Company and Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) or Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA) and sell corporate assets, while callously disregarding pension obligations.

As a retiree I have devoted my life to the success of my company and expected to receive the contracted retirement payments. The current BIA allows companies to seek financial shelter from creditors, sell off assets and remunerate all creditors from these sales except for the pension trust funds, who incidentally are often their largest creditors.

As a voter and taxpayer without the ability to restart my earnings/recover adequate income, I respectfully request that the current biased BIA be amended at the earliest possible date, to allow my retirement income to be treated in a similar manner to that of all other preferred creditors. Because time is of the essence, announcement of the Government's intent to do so in the 2010 Speech from the Throne will do much to encourage all Canadians to support your government in its declared programs.

Your prompt response and acknowledgement that these issues will be addressed in the Budget speech of March 3rd, 2010 would be greatly appreciated, and will enable me to continue to support the efforts that your government is undertaking.

Sincerely,
