Save Our Pensions

(From the Air Canada Pionairs News - Feb 4, 2010)

ACFN_Pionairs

We need your help in getting an urgent message to the Federal Government!

It's important that the they know that Air Canada retirees are concerned that nothing has been done by our Government to give preferred status to pension plan funds, in the event a company has no option but to enter into bankruptcy.

As it now stands, other creditors are considered first, while pensioners risk being considered last, or even not at all.

In order to raise our status so pensioners can be on a level playing field with other creditors, it is vital that the Federal Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act be amended to give pension plans preferred status. The Government will soon deliver the 2010 Budget, so our goal in launching this letter-writing campaign through this web site in conjunction with the Air Canada Pionairs is to have this matter addressed in their Budget Speech on March 3rd, 2010.

Please join us and write to our Government Leaders and your M.P.  To the left there are links to three possible letters which you may wish to use as well as a "Self Submitted" Letter Form. Please read them all and either choose the one that mirrors your thoughts or use them as a template to write your own. Please speak to your Member of Parliament and send in your concerns to the Prime Minister so he has an opportunity to address our needs when Parliament reconvenes March 3rd, 2010.

After submitting your form it will be submitted electronically to the following;

  • Your Member of Parliament
  • Prime Minister Stephen Harper
  • Industry Minister Tony Clement
  • Finance Minister Jim Flaherty
  • Minister of State (Seniors) Diane Ablonczy
  • Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Finamce - Ted Menzies
  • The Pionairs Pension Committee

Sincerely,

ACFamily Network
Air Canada Pionairs

In order to assist our members (both ACFamily and Pionairs) in contacting Parliament the Pionairs Pension and Benefet Sub-Committee has created three pre-made letters that hopefully will reflect your views. If not, you are also free to create your own letter with your own wording as well. The choices in the left column were created in this (HTML) format by the ACFamily Network  so that it would be easier for you to send your message to Parliament as a valid submission. All such submissions need to have a valid name, address and contact information in order to be considered legitimate by our Government. Anonymous emails are deleted. The forms provided are designed to assure that it is sent to your MP as well as other members of Parliament, that all required information is obtained, and it is also copied to the Pionairs Pension Committee as well. You will also receive a copy of what you submit to the Government for your records.

Please choose one of the options in the left hand menu, fill out the Form and Submit.
